Visit nursing home

Foreword: "I am old, I am old, and everyone is old." Respecting the old and loving the young has always been a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. Since 2014, when the founding president Mr. Qian Guiyuan first led the Western Australia Guangdong Association and General Chamber of Commerce to visit Little Sister of the Poor, a local nursing home in Western Australia, this year is already the eighth year. Just last weekend, a 25-member condolence team from the Western Australian Guangdong Association, led by President Cai Jiayi, Liao Jianzhang, Executive Vice President Yin Xiaojun, Secretary-General Zhong Haohong and Director Wu Hang, conducted an annual visit to a local nursing home in Perth. This activity is of great significance to the Chinese in Australia to increase their sense of identity and strengthen their sense of social responsibility as they can participate in local public welfare contributions to Australia.

Before the event, members of the Western Australia Cantonese Association went to the supermarket in advance to buy a variety of daily necessities to express condolences to the elderly. At 9:30 in the morning, everyone set off from their residences to the nursing home. Under the organization of President Cai Jiayi, we moved the condolences from the car and contacted the relevant person in charge of the nursing home. Most of the condolences are daily necessities: including medical wet wipes, paper towels, masks, disinfectant, etc. These daily necessities can provide a better quality of life for the elderly in nursing homes.

Afterwards, everyone visited the nursing home under the leadership of the person in charge of the nursing home. This 100-year-old nursing home was renovated and a new building was added with the assistance of Executive Vice Chairman Yin Xiaojun's company. The number of residents has increased from 60 to 72, of which 3 are over 100 years old.

Finally, President Cai Jiayi and the person in charge of the nursing home confirmed the handover of supplies, shook hands and took a group photo. After eight years of repeated contact, the voices and smiles of the elderly people have always remained in our hearts! Everyone will go through the process of getting older. The elderly have gone through ups and downs and nurtured the next generation. Now we should take care of them as a matter of course. However, in this era of material abundance, middle-aged people are increasingly busy with work and have no time to take care of their parents. Therefore, there are many lonely and helpless elderly people in the society, and our Western Australia Guangdong Association has taken the initiative to assume this obligation. responsibility to continue to carry forward this traditional virtue that has lasted for thousands of years. What was particularly touching was that this year’s condolences team included many young people and even children. For this, as a member of the hometown association, I feel honored! I hope that our generation will continue to pass on this great love regardless of rain or shine.
