The epidemic is ruthless, but we have love

Western Australia and Guangdong will tell you that "persistence is not only victory, but also a virtue"

On the morning of March 15, 2020, the local Little Sisters of the Poor Glendalough nursing home in Western Australia welcomed a group of long-lost "old and new friends". Speaking of long absence, it’s because these friends insist on visiting the nursing home every year during Women’s Day. This year is already the 7th year. Speaking of old age, Chairman Cai and Vice Chairman Liao insist on adhering to the founding principles of Chairman Qian and Qian. It is a fine tradition for my wife and all the board members to participate every year; when it comes to new, it is because this year there is a new team led by President Cai, a group of energetic young people.

Mr. Qian Guiyuan, the founding president of the Western Australia Guangdong Association and General Chamber of Commerce, and his wife uphold the virtue of respecting the elderly. Seven years ago, they led the main officers of the association into this nursing home for the first time to visit and express condolences to the local elders. This Chinese nation The fine tradition of the company has gone through six spring and autumn years under their leadership. This year, the new president Mr. Cai Jiayi and Vice President Liao led many young officers from the secretariat of the association, the Ministry of Economic and Trade and the Youth Department to visit the grandparents in the nursing home for the seventh time. They hope to promote Chinese virtues while also serving the Chinese people in Western Australia. Integrate efforts and contributions into the local community.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic and some media chaos, it is currently difficult to purchase rolling paper on the market. Considering that the staff of nursing homes are busy and cannot take the time to buy, and the demand for rolling paper in nursing homes is large, this year The Western Australia Guangdong Association decided to donate a certain amount of paper towels to nursing homes in addition to previous donations. On the afternoon of March 14, several members of the Association Secretariat, the Economic and Trade Department and the Youth Department jointly counted and loaded nearly 3,000 rolls of paper towels after a regular work meeting. President Cai also distributed masks and gloves to the staff who were about to go to the nursing home, and emphasized that everyone must do a good job in protection. While showing love, they must also ensure the safety and hygiene of the nursing home and themselves.

On the morning of March 15, when the young leaders of the Western Australia Cantonese Association delivered charity supplies to the nursing home, Mother Angela said excitedly to President Cai: "Thank you for coming to visit our elderly people, thank you for bringing us the most important things now." We need roll paper, and thank you all for wearing masks and gloves.” President Cai said: “I promise you that our Guangdong Association of Western Australia will continue to pass on this love and send it to the elderly every year. "It is a pity that due to the epidemic, this year's visit cannot accompany the elderly to chat and sing as in previous years. We only deliver the supplies and help place them. To ensure the health of the elderly, we cannot visit the elderly. I can only look at the old people quietly from a distance through the window, and silently pray and wish them good health and longevity.

The biggest regret during this visit was that my nearly 107-year-old grandma passed away in February this year. The Western Australia Guangdong Association had been with her for 6 years. After hearing the news, President Cai shed tears and expressed his gratitude to his companions. They said: "There are still three centenarians in the nursing home. We wish them good health and will definitely visit them again next year."

Before leaving, President Cai said to his friends sincerely: "The epidemic is ruthless, but our generation has love! The Western Australia Guangdong Association and General Chamber of Commerce will always work hard to serve the vast number of overseas Chinese living in Western Australia and care for the Chinese and Western Australians. While overseas Chinese, we must also integrate into the local community, continue to carry forward the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation, and make due contributions to the integration of the Chinese into the local society.”
